MICHAEL STEADMAN is an active orchestral musician in the San Francisco Bay Area and is currently principal harpist of the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony and Symphony Parnassus. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music (Bachelor of Music '97) and the Interlochen Arts Academy, he is an active freelancer and has over 20 years experience as a professional harpist.

Michael is a member of the American Harp Society and the AHS Bay Area Chapter. He owns and performs on a Lyon & Healy Style 30, a striking mid-century modern harp originaly designed in 1958.

Michael began his musical studies in Colorado Springs, Colorado on piano at the age of six. He spent summers at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, where he began his harp studies. He received his Bachelor in Music degree from the Eastman School of Music in Music Theory, with minors in both harp performance and French. While at Eastman he became one of the founding members and teaching assistants for the newly formed Balinese traditional music ensemble Gamelan Lila Muni. After completing his studies Michael relocated to San Francisco, where he continued to expolre is interest in Balinese gamelan, and continued his harp studies with harpists such as Doug Rioth, Marcia Dickstein, and Karen Gottlieb.
